After a few weeks of stripping rotten raised beds, salvaging wood, and renovating most of the site, we decided to hold an open day as we move into Spring, to show the variety of activities we host.

We had between 25 - 30 people attend and offered free bacon butties while we showed people around the site and talked about our plans for the future of the site. Cooking food on site, is something we'll be looking at in the future for outdoor cooking.
Those who attended, of all ages helped plant 4 buckets of potatoes (maris piper) and two raised beds of shallots. Bucket planting makes it easier to harvest, as we empty them into wheelbarrows and avoid spearing any of the potatoes with forks.
As the site isn't just about running a community allotment, we also offer some outdoor sports, soft archery, swingball, badminton, ping-pong, connect four, arts & crafts, and finally nerf wars. For the children, it helps break up the allotment work; quite often, the kids are more than happy just digging big holes rather than gardening. We'll be back next Saturday from 11 am till 3 pm/4 pm. We hope to be open every Saturday moving forward, and as things progress to summer, we'll most likely be open during the week. But for now, if you want to attend, you can catch us every Saturday. Thanks to all those who attended and the volunteers who helped to host today's open day.
